KUCHING, Mar 29: A total of 178 recipients from 12 villages affected by the recent floods in Serian received cash and voucher assistance (CVA) in a ceremony held at the SJK Chung Hua Serian multipurpose hall on Saturday (Mar 28).

According to a statement, Serian MP Dato’ Sri Richard Riot Jaem officiated the programme, which was organised by the Serian branch of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS).

“The CVA consists of food baskets, household items, home equipment, and medicine valued at RM370 per person, amounting to a total assistance value of RM65,860.

“All recipients may make their purchases at Sin Joon Miaw Supermarket, Serian, from April 7, 2026, until April 21, 2026,” said the statement.

Meanwhile, Riot said that the programme reflects a shared commitment to assist communities affected by the recent floods and expressed his appreciation to MRCS Serian for its effort to help affected residents.

The CVA approach provides aid in the form of cash or vouchers, giving recipients greater flexibility to prioritise their needs, while also supporting local businesses. — DayakDaily
