MIRI, 12 September: A total of 2,600 high school students in Sarawak will receive MyB2S Schools (MyB2S) which allows them to get a free driver's license before finishing school.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the initiative is part of the government's efforts to provide young people with the necessary qualifications before entering employment.
He said the MyB2S programme targets 60,000 high school students across the country with an allocation of RM18.5 million.
"We want them to step into the world of work more preparedly, with the necessary qualifications and no longer burdened by the cost of getting a driver's license after school.
"This is the government's commitment to pay attention and make investments in the potential of young people", he said.
He said this while addressing the inaugural closing ceremony of Parliamentary MyLesen Help Program P.218 Sibuti at Bekenu Community Hall, near here today.
Meanwhile, Hasbi also stressed the importance of education and road safety awareness among new users, especially motorcyclists.
According to him, a total of 6,537 deaths from road accidents were recorded across the country in 2025, with about 66 percent involving motorcyclists.
He said safety aspects should be taken into consideration as efforts are made to expand public access to driving licences so that each licence holder has adequate knowledge and skills when on the road. - TVS
