25pct electricity discount for all domestic users in Sarawak from April–Dec 2026

KUCHING, April 16: The Sarawak government will provide a 25 per cent electricity discount for all domestic users from April to December 2026 as part of continued efforts to ease cost pressures on the people amid global uncertainties.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the move reflects the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of Sarawakians, particularly as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to affect economies and households worldwide.

“We are giving a 25% discount, and this will be fully paid by the Sarawak government,” he said during a press conference announcing Special Cash Assistance after chairing the State Cabinet Meeting at the Satria Pertiwi Complex, which was broadcast live via TVS and UKAS channels today.

He said the electricity rebate is similar to assistance provided under previous Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) packages.

According to him, the initiative is expected to benefit 714,557 domestic users across Sarawak, with a total allocation of RM188.1 million fully borne by the State government.

The Premier added that the decision was made in recognition of the ripple effects of global conflicts, which have impacted all levels of society, necessitating continued government support and intervention to safeguard household welfare.

The discount will be implemented from April until December 2026.

Also present during the press conference were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, as well as Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki. — DayakDaily
