KUCHING, May 7: Police have arrested a 29-year-old local man believed to be involved in a motorcycle rim theft case in the Jalan Mahkamah Lama area here.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect was arrested by the Lejang Team at around 1.15pm yesterday (May 6) in the Simpang Tiga area.

The arrest was made in connection with a motorcycle rim theft case reported on May 2.

Police also seized a motorcycle and several items believed to be linked to the case.

“Initial investigations found that the suspect was involved in the theft case,” he said in a statement.

Urine screening tests also found the suspect positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Further checks revealed that the suspect has two previous criminal records.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code for theft of motor vehicle components, which carries a jail sentence of between one and seven years, and may also include a fine upon conviction.
