3,000 families set to benefit from Petros’ piped gas in Miri

KUCHING: The Quadruplex Taman Ceria (QTC) gas project in Permyjaya, Miri, part of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad’s (Petros) multi-phase initiative to supply safe, reliable, and affordable piped gas, is set to benefit over 3,000 households in the area upon completion.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the project’s second phase will connect piped gas to an additional 135 households.

“The project is currently on track and expected to be completed by 2025. Once fully implemented, the overall QTC project will benefit more than 3,000 households in Permyjaya.

“I am also pleased to inform that Petros shall cover all installation costs for the necessary gas pipeline to deliver piped gas directly to your kitchen,” he said during Petros’ 7th anniversary dinner at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here last night (Oct 30).

Abang Johari said as of February this year, Petros had completed the first phase of the QTC project, providing affordable piped gas to 13 lower-income households in Permyjaya.

As the gas aggregator, he said, Petros is entrusted to invest in the development, expansion, management and maintenance of critical gas and energy infrastructure throughout Sarawak.

“That is our ambition, that it is not only in Permyjaya, but also throughout Sarawak. You don’t have to carry the tank anymore, but it’s piped to your houses.

“The progress we have made in Miri is just the beginning of our footprint, the tip of the iceberg, there will be more to come,” he added.

Furthermore, Abang Johari said Petros had also made significant investments to fuel Sarawak’s energy future, including a RM100 million investment in the ‘Gas to Bintulu’ project aimed at providing natural gas access to Bintulu, alongside a RM1bil commitment to the Samalaju Pipeline project.

He said the offshore pipeline materials are currently being manufactured, with installation on track for completion by November 2025.

Also present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, and Petros Group CEO Datuk Janin Girie and chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo.
