ADVERTISE HERE
KUCHING, Jan 26: A total of 394 Sarawak army veterans in Sarawak currently serve as volunteers under the State’s immune belt enforcement team (IBET).
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, also the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, said their main purpose is to help monitor the spread of rabies near the State’s border from Lundu to Ba’kelalan.
“They are posted near the border and work with the local community. They are also mobile,” he told reporters after attending a ceremony for the late Major (B) Michael Riman Bugat’s grave at Kuching Heroes’ Cemetery today.
Uggah added that the volunteers also serve as first responders in their respective areas whenever a disaster occurs, such as floods, fires, and many others. — DayakDaily
