KUCHING, 3 Oct: About 100 micro-welfare entrepreneurs are leveraging the Sarawak Carnival Wellbest as a platform to expand product markets, build business networks and boost welfare recipient household incomes.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of Women and Child Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus, said the participation of entrepreneurs involved through exhibition spaces and sales throughout the carnival gives them an opportunity to highlight their products to the community.
He said the platform also opens up space for entrepreneurs to build business networks and share experience and skills with other entrepreneurs.
"If we don't provide a platform like this, they might have to work their way into the market. So, today is a platform for them to highlight their products", he said as they met at the Welfare Family Fun Walk here today.
Rosey said the increased sales and earnings of micro-welfare entrepreneurs could help boost the economic status of families receiving welfare assistance.
In the meantime, he said, Karnival Wellbest Sarawak also brought together various government agencies that provide exhibitions and services in an integrated manner, thus creating a concept of one-stop centre to the community.
He said that the community especially small entrepreneurs can get information regarding entrepreneurial opportunities, loans, licensing and guidance services from the relevant agencies without having to visit offices separately.
"It makes it easier for them to get information from one counter to another regarding registrations, questions and matters related to economic development or family entrepreneurship", he said.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,177 participants from 254 families and individual categories participated in the Welfare Family Fun Walk which was among the crowds of the carnival.
Out of those, 1,062 participants joined the family category while 115 more entered the individual category.
The programme started with zumba activities before participants joined the Family Fun Walk as an effort to encourage interaction and community-based activities.
