BINTULU (Jan 15): Immediate assistance has been extended to flood-affected residents in Ulu Sebauh following a field visit by Steven Kong Kai Seng, the special duties officer to the Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

Kong said the visit, carried out together with staff from the Bintulu MP’s Service Centre and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Youth, was aimed at assessing the extent of damage and the impact of flooding on several longhouses in the area.

Following the assessment, the findings were conveyed to Bintulu MP, who instructed that priority aid be channelled to the most severely affected longhouse, Rumah Saging Layang at Sungai Ensaie, Jalan Ulu Sebauh.

“A total of 45 families received basic necessities to help ease their burden and address urgent needs while flood conditions persist.

“With floodwaters yet to fully subside and key access routes still disrupted, local residents have coordinated the use of boats to facilitate the staged delivery of aid to affected longhouses, ensuring assistance reaches every family in an organised manner,” said Kong.

The headman of Rumah Saging Layang expressed gratitude for the timely aid, describing it as crucial for residents at a time when mobility remains restricted.

Kong also acknowledged the support of PDP Youth and volunteers, whose cooperation enabled swift coordination and delivery of assistance.

Tiong who is the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, assured that he will continue to closely monitor the flood situation in Ulu Sebauh and stands ready to provide further assistance if required, to ensure the welfare of affected residents remains protected during the ongoing flood crisis.
