KUCHING, March 18: A 78-year-old foreign cyclist died in Sarawak General Hospital on Monday (Marchh 16) after colliding with a lorry while changing lanes along Jalan Pelabuhan Pending.

The accident, which occurred at around 9.30am is believed to have taken place when the victim, who was riding in the far left lane, suddenly veered into the middle lane and was struck on the left side by an oncoming Isuzu lorry.

According to Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, preliminary investigations found that the lorry, driven by a local man, was travelling straight in the middle lane from Jalan Senari towards Jalan Pelabuhan Pending at the time of the incident.

“The cyclist sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to Sarawak General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 12 noon,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and further inquiries are ongoing. — DayakDaily
