MIRI (Oct 5): Some 88 students from 45 schools across Sarawak recently benefitted from the Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) Foundation’s Student Adoption Programme (SAP) 2023/2024.
The initiative, which targets underprivileged students from primary and secondary schools, aims to provide essential financial support to ensure a brighter future for children from low-income families.
A series of distribution ceremonies were held in various locations such as Marudi, Sebauh, Lambir, Niah, Suai, Tatau and Balingian, and were an effort by the SOP Foundation to personally deliver the aid to recipients in different regions despite the challenges posed by geographical distance.
“Each of the 88 students received one-off financial assistance along with brand-new school bags and stationeryt o better prepare them for the school year ahead.
“At SOP Foundation, we believe education is key to empowering the next generation, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. By providing these students with the resources they need, we hope to foster long-term growth and uplift entire communities,” said SOP Foundation in a statement.
This recent initiative brings the total number of beneficiaries of the SAP to 754 students since its inception in 2016, reflecting the foundation’s continuous commitment to helping underprivileged students across the state.
SOP Foundation is the philanthropic arm of SOP and continues to blend business success with social responsibility by focusing on community welfare and development through its impactful initiatives.
Among them are the Young Achievers Award, SOP Foundation Vision Care Project and Healthy Strides Malaysia programme, and these programmes align with the foundation’s goal of promoting mutual growth and contributing to the social well-being of the regions it operates in.
