KUCHING: The Song Kheng Hai Rugby Field, a historic landmark, once again hosted the Song Kheng Hai Sevens 3rd Edition today (Oct 26).

Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU) president Richard Song Swee Jin said that this rugby field represents the heritage of the city.

“My grandfather’s vision, may he rest in peace, continues through us, and it is our responsibility to maintain this field for generations to come.”

“History is the mirror of the future. History is important. Any historian will tell you, facts cannot be distorted. You cannot read or write history. History is to last forever,” he said at the opening ceremony.

Established in 1959, the Song Kheng Hai Rugby Field is home to the Kuching Rugby Football Club, the oldest rugby club in Malaysia.

“This is a source of immense pride and honour for us all,” he added.

The tournament featured several teams, including Falcon Rugby Club, Mukah Rugby, Tambadau Rugby, and Asajaya Rugby.

Also present was SRU patron Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Ghani.
