KUCHING (Jan 25): Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has congratulated Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman for his instrumental role in developing Kuching City FC into a top football team representing Sarawak.
He said Kuching City FC is widely regarded as a representative of Sarawak whenever the team plays, particularly by supporters who turn up at the stadium.
“When fans come to the stadium to give their support, they see Kuching City FC as Sarawak’s representative.
“That is why we are very happy to see the improvement in the Sarawak team, in particular Kuching City FC, in the league,” he added when speaking to reporters before the trial ride of the Kuching Metro Bus at Electra House here on Sunday.
Abdul Karim added that the team’s progress also reflects the rising standard of football in Sarawak.
“At least we can see that the quality of teams from Bumi Kenyalang has improved,” he said.
He therefore congratulated Fazzrudin, who is also Tupong assemblyman and Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, on the team’s achievement.
“Congratulations to Fazzrudin on this victory,” he said.
Fazzrudin is the chairman and president of Kuching City FC and is credited with guiding the club’s development and management.
He also currently serves as president of the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS).
Abdul Karim was responding to questions from reporters on his comments following Kuching City FC’s advancement to the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals after staging an impressive comeback with a 2–0 victory over Penang FC in the second-leg Round of 16 match at Stadium Negeri here last night (Jan 24).
The Cats progressed 2-1 on aggregate after losing the first leg 1-0, with the home match played in rainy and challenging conditions.
