Three men were arrested on suspicion of wire theft in Kandis village

KUCHING, 3 Oct: Three local men aged between 30 and 41 were arrested by police on suspicion of involvement in a cable theft incident on the side of Siol Kandis village, Petra Jaya here, yesterday.

Kuching Regional Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga son of Chabu said the three suspects were detained by a police team from D4 Criminal Investigation Division, Sarawak Container Police Headquarters at about 11:20 am.

"The initial investigation found that the incident occurred at about 10.20 am on the same day when the suspect was believed to have cut the cable using a cutter before dragging him by motorcycle to a house in Hulu Island Village.

"The cable was later believed to have been cut into small pieces", he said in a statement today.

He said, as soon as he found out the three suspects had some criminal records.

"Early urine screening also found all suspects were drugged.

"The case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to two years or fine or both", he said.
