KUCHING (July 8): The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) is ready to make changes to its work culture in response to the state government’s call for various initiatives to be delivered to the people, said Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
The Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas) said this initiative is based on the advice of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“At the behest and advice of Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari, Ukas will be holding an in-house seminar to revamp to a new culture, method and field of work.
“This is due to various government initiatives, especially those announced by the Premier. As such, the duties of Ukas will be of a more aggressive approach,” he was quoted in an Ukas report.
Abdullah was speaking at the unit’s ‘ngiling tikai’ ceremony held here Sunday.
He added he was also advised by Abang Johari to collaborate with Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (Azam), especially in carrying out new programmes jointly organised by the two organisations.
“This collaboration is to assist our Premier in delivering government initiatives more effectively.
“Azam and Ukas will have more collaborations together where we will look back at our previous approach and change the way we work including applying an aggressive approach especially in engagements with the community and other ministries.”
He also said that several meetings have been held with the management of Azam to discuss on the work, plans and programmes.
“These programmes will also involve media agencies in Sarawak in ensuring that the gap in understanding government initiatives is reduced among the community in the state,” he added.
Also present were Ukas director Samuel Simon, Kuching Division Journalists Association president Ronnie Teo, and TVS chief media officer Mohamad Sardon Zainal.
