KUCHING (Jan 14): Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has shared a glimpse of his close relationship with his late wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.
During a town hall meeting here last night, the Premier recounted the lessons from their 48 years of life together.
Although she passed away +, he said her presence could still be felt.
He recalled a dinner here when he was wanted to leave after dessert was served.
“She smiled and said, ‘Look at the other people’s tables. They don’t have dessert yet. We’ve already had it. They must be hungry. They must be starving.’
“That means, was telling me to consider the other guests. If they have finished eating dessert, then you can leave. The moment you leave, everyone else will follow. That was a big lesson for me,” he shared.
Abang Johari said from then on, he made sure to be mindful of others whenever he was a guest of honour.
He also spoke of the ongoing support from his daughter Dayang Norjihan, who has been accompanying him at event since Juma’ani’s passing.
He also shared that he visits Juma’ani’s grave every Friday, adding that her presence and guidance remain with him.
She passed away on June 23, 2025 at the age of 76.
