SIBU, Nov 4: Sarawak’s five State-owned universities will now admit students solely based on merit, not quotas.
According to a report by The Star, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said with meritocracy, students will have to work harder and compete to secure their place.
“Students need to know that enrolment for these universities is no longer based on a quota system. In other words, it’s based on meritocracy,” he was quoted saying at the Sarawak Career and Training Fair 2024 on Saturday (Nov 2).
The five State-owned universities are Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Curtin University Malaysia, University of Technology Sarawak, i-CATS University College, and Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak. — DayakDaily
