KUCHING, Oct 6: AirBorneo is set to launch direct Kuching-Jakarta flights by the end of this month, expanding its network to key regional hubs following the introduction of services connecting Kuching with Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“At the end of the month, we (AirBorneo) will be flying to Jakarta. It only takes one hour 30 minutes to fly Kuching-Jakarta, Jakarta-Kuching,” said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the official launch of a hotel here today.
He added that the State government decided to invest in its own airline because Sarawak’s geographical location makes reliable air connectivity essential for bringing people into the State.
AirBorneo was previously reported to be launching direct Kuching-Jakarta flights in October, following Abang Johari’s announcement of the new route in September.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee; and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng were among those present during the event. — DayakDaily
