KUCHING, 6 Oct: The second edition of BorneoCraft Global 2.0 Expo & Conference (BCG 2.0) will bring together 200 domestic and foreign craft entrepreneurs at Kuching Strait, from 25 to 29 November.

Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the 'Crafting Tradition and Innovation' theme event opened more space for local craft activists to expand markets and business networks.

He said that BCG 2.0 not only highlights craft heritage but also provides access to international markets, science and networks to help craft activists develop more sustainable businesses.

"Crafts are not only a legacy, but also a source of income for the community because behind every weaving and bead there are families and communities that depend on them.

"BCG 2.0 provides opportunities for craft activists to gain exposure, knowledge and market access, in addition to strengthening Sarawak's position in the tourism sector and creative industries globally", he said at a BCG 2.0 press conference here today.

Snowdan said that out of 200 entrepreneurs who participated in the event, 30 were international participants, 30 from across Malaysia and 140 Sarawak entrepreneurs.

He said that the participation gave local craft activists an opportunity to expand their network with industry players, buyers and experts from various markets.

"BCG 2.0 is expected to attract about 30,000 visitors during its five-day event", he said.

The event comprises three main components namely the Bicycle Expo and Kraf Workshop, the International Symposium as well as the Gala Dinner Festival and the International Kraf Awards.

The exhibition features seven themed zones, including the Premium Sarawak Pavilion, International Crafts Pavilion, Malaysian Crafts Pavilion, Crafts Market Lane and The Rasa Sarawak Food Hall.

It also features live crafts demonstrations, master classes by international artists as well as various craft workshops.

Snowdan said that preparations for the BCG 2.0 launch are now going well and the public is invited to attend to see the results of the craft as well as interact directly with industry activists.

He said the event also gave opportunities for craft entrepreneurs to gain knowledge from international experts, meet buyers and improve skills in developing craft as a sustainable business.
