KUCHING, March 20: The celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri extends beyond a religious observance or family gathering, serving as a meaningful platform to strengthen unity and nurture a spirit of togetherness within Sarawak’s multi-racial society.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian emphasised that the open house tradition, widely practised during Aidilfitri, embodies the values of harmony, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to interact and share in the joy of the occasion.
He noted that the celebration underscores the uniqueness of a community rooted in peace, mutual respect, and an appreciation of cultural diversity, which contributes to forming a strong foundation for a stable and resilient State.
“Hari Raya is the best time for us to come together once more, to share meals, spend time with our families, and strengthen bonds within the community, especially among those separated by daily commitments,” he said in his 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri message on Thursday (March 19).
Dr Sim added that the spirit of care and mutual assistance displayed throughout the festive season reflects a society that consistently looks out for one another.
“It is not only through financial contributions, but also through compassion and mutual respect that our state continues to earn admiration and appreciation,” he said. — DayakDaily
