KUCHING (Feb 7): Sarawak is regarded as having strong potential as a strategic partner of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), particularly in energy development and regional connectivity.

AIIB representative Kim See Lim said the state’s growing role in strengthening Asean-level connectivity and its solid position in energy development make it a promising collaborator.

She made the remarks following a courtesy visit to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg here Friday.

Kim said discussions with the Sarawak Premier confirmed strong alignment between Sarawak’s development priorities and AIIB’s mandate in financing sustainable and future-oriented infrastructure.

“Sarawak’s aspiration to invest in next-generation technologies, particularly in the renewable energy sector, is fully aligned with AIIB’s mission to support future infrastructure development.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to collaborate and support Sarawak’s development agenda, especially in the areas of sustainable energy and new technologies,” she told the media after the meeting.

Kim noted that the visit was an important opportunity for AIIB to gain a deeper understanding of Malaysia’s development goals and explore potential areas of cooperation.

The visit was part of AIIB’s official engagement programme in Malaysia to identify potential strategic collaborations in line with the mandate of the international financial institution.
