KUCHING, Oct. 6: AirBorneo plans to expand its international flight network into South Korea, as the country's market is seen as more potentially than Bangkok, Thailand.
Sarawak's premier, Datuk Seri Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the selection of a flight route should take into account passenger numbers and market demand.
"The Korean market is seen as bigger than Bangkok. If we compare the two, it's better to focus on Korea than Bangkok. We'll set priorities", he said in a press conference after completing the inauguration of The Everly Lhesson Kuching Hotel here today.
According to him, AirBorneo will complement existing airline services and add flights based on passenger needs.
"AirBorneo acts only as a complement because there are other airlines too. When necessary, AirBorneo will add flights", he said.
Brother Johari said AirBorneo currently has two aircraft, with the number expected to increase to five as more aircraft are received.
"At the moment we have two planes and we are planning. As more planes arrive, we expect the number to increase to five.
"The journey to Jakarta will be initiated first as there is a large population and high movement including for healthcare purposes", he explained.
Earlier, he said, the ongoing connection between Kuching and Jeju Islands could potentially be strengthened through the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Geopark status equalization to attract more East Asian tourists to Sarawak. - TVS
