KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has called on all parties, including local authorities, to play their respective roles in advancing Sarawak’s development agenda.
“I have stressed to officers and staff, mayors and councillors that everyone must play their role and fulfil their respective responsibilities in building a developed Sarawak.
“Therefore, all of you must work hard and wholeheartedly so that Sarawak can achieve greater success,” he said.
He said this at the Green Excellence and Geopark Awards (GAGA) 2026 here on Tuesday night (Oct. 6).
On the awards, Dr Sim said they were in line with the aspiration of making Kuching a greener, more liveable and competitive city.
He added that a green city not only benefits residents but could also attract more visitors while supporting liveability, tourism, investment and economic competitiveness.
“Kuching has the potential to become a cleaner, smarter and greener city without compromising its role as a dynamic destination,” he said.
Meanwhile, he stressed that ‘Kuching Green’ should not merely be a slogan, but a commitment to ensuring the city becomes cleaner, smarter, greener and more liveable for future generations.
“It is hoped that Kuching will not only be known as a beautiful city, but also as a sustainable city where this vision can be successfully realised,” he said.
