KUCHING, Oct 8: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) is set to launch a five-year Low Carbon Masterplan aimed at guiding efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the city and support the achievement of its 2030 targets.
DBKU Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman said the Masterplan, developed in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), had been completed and would be officially launched during the Sarawak Urban Forum (SUF) 2.0 on Oct 24.
“The Masterplan has been completed, and we worked together with Unimas on it,” he said during a press conference on the Sarawak Urban Forum 2.0 Project Legacy at Lebuh Java here today.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi officiated the soft launching ceremony of the legacy project.
Hilmy said the Masterplan would be one of the key features of SUF 2.0, marking the beginning of DBKU’s more systematic efforts to reduce carbon emissions across Kuching North.
“We are among several cities in Malaysia that have undertaken this Masterplan study. We are therefore very proud to launch the Low Carbon Masterplan for Kuching North City Hall and begin our activities towards reducing carbon emissions, ultimately moving towards zero carbon emissions,” he said.
He said further details on the Masterplan would be unveiled during its official launch at SUF 2.0 on Oct 24.
The five-year plan forms part of DBKU’s broader efforts to support Kuching’s transition towards low-carbon development, with the longer-term goal of achieving net-zero or zero carbon emissions. — DayakDaily
