TYT’s 80th birthday to draw 10,000 to Padang Merdeka, People’s Concert to light up the night

KUCHING, Oct 8: Padang Merdeka is expected to be packed with up to 10,000 people this Saturday (Oct 10) as Sarawak comes together to celebrate the 80th birthday of Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, followed by a People’s Concert at night.

According to a TVS report, Sarawak Minister for Utilities and Telecommunications Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the celebration would unite people from diverse backgrounds while reflecting Sarawak’s spirit of harmony and unity.

“Preparations for the celebration are at a satisfactory level based on today’s full rehearsal, with the hope that the event will run smoothly on the actual day,” he said when met by the media after attending the full rehearsal today.

Julaihi, who is also the minister in charge of the celebration, said better road connectivity had made it easier for people across Sarawak to travel to Kuching for the celebration.

He encouraged Kuching residents and people from all walks of life to join the morning celebration, with a People’s Concert set to enliven Padang Merdeka at night.

“This celebration is not only a mark of respect for the Sarawak Governor, but also reflects the harmony and spirit of unity among the people of various races in the State,” he said.

Meanwhile, Julaihi assured that security would be given priority, with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and relevant agencies on standby to ensure the celebration runs smoothly.

He expressed hope that the celebration would take place in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere, in keeping with Sarawak’s culture. — DayakDaily
