MIRI, April 1: All MASWings employees have opted to join Sarawak’s new airline, AirBorneo, in a clear vote of confidence in the carrier’s future direction.

In a TVS news, Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the development provides renewed assurance to the State government that AirBorneo’s operations can be rolled out smoothly and effectively.

“When we first offered MASWings staff the opportunity to transition to AirBorneo, I was concerned about how many would come on board.

“But I am pleased to say that 100 per cent of the workforce accepted the offer. Not a single employee declined,” he said when officiating the Sarawak Aviation Safety Programme Low Altitude Economy Seminar 2026 on Tuesday (March 31).

Lee added that AirBorneo’s management must now focus on strengthening its operational capabilities and expanding capacity to position the airline as a competitive regional player.

“The priority now is to further build our operational strength and capacity so that AirBorneo can emerge as a strong and competitive regional aviation leader,” he said.

He noted that the full backing from its workforce is a critical foundation for ensuring a seamless transition of operations to AirBorneo, with no disruptions reported since the takeover on Jan 1. — DayakDaily
