ASAJAYA (Oct 25): Asajaya is set to experience significant development over the next five to ten years, said its assemblyman Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He stated that the district is undergoing plans for upgrades in various sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure and improvements to water and electricity utilities.
“In the past, Asajaya was regarded as a rural area, but today it is considered part of the Kuching urban circle.
“I urge everyone in this constituency, regardless of your ethnicity or religious backgrounds, to stay united and maintain harmony so that such developments can continue unabated,” he said during the water tank handover ceremony at Kampung Serpan Laut here today.
In this context, he also encouraged Asajaya residents to engage in agriculture to boost their economic sector.
“If you’re looking to be resourceful, you should reserve land for cultivation such as lemongrass, chillies, corn and other crops to supply and sell to the residents of Kuching who need them.
“Residents within the urban circle must utilise their wisdom to cultivate even a small area to enhance your economic sector,” said Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts.
Today, 605 water storage tanks have been handed over to 25 representatives from villages in Asajaya.
“While there is a water supply, the significant increase in housing here means that the pipes supplying water in this district are still the old ones.
“Therefore, the water pressure is not very strong. This issue has already been discussed at the highest levels within the cabinet, and we are working to replace all necessary parts for water distribution, including for electricity,” he said.
