KUCHING: Four months of gruelling preparation, three training sessions a day and the challenge of dieting and health setbacks have paid off for Mohd Al Badrul Abu, who was crowned champion at the 55th Mr Malaysia National Bodybuilding Championships in Alor Setar, Kedah.

The PGA Batu Kawa Sarawak Brigade member won the Men’s Sports Physique category above 170cm, representing the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) at the championships held from Oct 1 to 4.

Badrul said the victory was particularly meaningful after overcoming various challenges during his four-month preparation, including maintaining his diet and dealing with health issues.

“Alhamdulillah, throughout the four months of training for this competition, I managed to secure first place in the Men’s Sports Physique category above 170cm.

“I am very grateful and happy because all the effort and sacrifices during training, the challenges during dieting and the health issues I faced eventually paid off,” he said.

His preparation came after he represented Malaysia at the 20th South East Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Championship in Yangon, Myanmar, from May 14 to 18, where he finished fifth in the Men’s Physique category up to 170cm.

He added that every training session was crucial to sharpening his physique, with his preparation involving three sessions a day at TurboFitness Matang, in the morning, afternoon and evening.

“Every training session played a very important role for me. I would train at one of the best gyms in Kuching, three times a day to further improve my physique for competition day,” he said.

Badrul also expressed his appreciation to the PDRM leadership, Sarawak Brigade and Battalion 11 PGA Batu Kawa for supporting his preparation, as well as his coaches, teammates and friends who assisted him with training, nutrition and financial support.

“Not forgetting, my highest appreciation goes to my wife, children and family who have always prayed for my success and remained patient throughout my preparation for this championship,” he said.
