KUCHING, March 4: The Bailey bridge installation across the Baleh River in Baram has been completed five months ahead of schedule, restoring vital connectivity for local communities well before expected.

The project, part of the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak initiative to enhance rural infrastructure, ensures safer and more reliable transportation in the area.

JKR Sarawak director Datu Ir Cassidy Morris visited the site today as part of the department’s Project Empowerment series, inspecting the new bridge and monitoring its operational readiness.

In a post shared on its social media, JKR Sarawak said the bridge is a Triple Double Reinforced (TDR) Bailey bridge supplied by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), designed with 17 panels to safely accommodate traffic loads while ensuring structural strength.

NADMA’s logistical support played a key role in expediting construction, particularly in remote areas where immediate alternative routes are critical.

The project reflects a strategic collaboration between JKR Sarawak and NADMA, highlighting the government’s focus on providing temporary but robust infrastructure solutions to support mobility, safety, and community welfare in rural regions. — DayakDaily
