SIBU (March 19): Supt Balamurugan Govinda has been appointed as the new deputy police chief of Sibu, succeeding ACP Boniface Bajai.
The appointment was formalized during a handover ceremony held at the Senior Officers’ Mess of the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters, marking the official transfer of duties and responsibilities between the two officers.
Balamurugan assumes the post following Boniface’s reassignment, in a move aimed at ensuring continuity in leadership and the smooth administration of policing duties in the district.
The ceremony was witnessed by Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak, who emphasised the importance of maintaining professionalism, integrity and commitment among officers entrusted with safeguarding public security and order.
When contacted, Balamurugan expressed appreciation for the appointment and outlined his priorities.
“I am honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility. My priority is to ensure public safety and maintain law and order, while enhancing crime prevention efforts and strengthening cooperation with the community,” he said.
He added that he is committed to carrying out my duties with integrity to ensure Sibu remains a safe and secure place for all.
