KUCHING (March 14): The Batang Lupar 1 Bridge is nearing completion and is expected to be opened to the public by mid-May, according to the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak.
The department said in a Facebook post that once operational, the bridge would enhance connectivity along Sarawak’s coastal road network.
On Jan 27, deputy minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the RM848.75 million project had reached its final stage, with construction progress recorded at 94.6 per cent.
“The project is progressing smoothly according to schedule despite technical issues at Pier 52.
“However, the issues have been resolved, which is why the overall progress remains on track.
“It will be completed in May and this means that before the Gawai celebration, the bridge will be opened to the public,” he said.
Aidel added that the bridge is among Sarawak’s key infrastructure projects expected to significantly improve connectivity, boost economic activities and ease movement, particularly for residents in Sebuyau and surrounding areas.
