KUCHING (Oct 4): The Sessions Court here today sentenced a man who assaulted his 84-year-old mother with a machete to 12 years in prison and two strokes of the rotan.

Jisan Linas, 47, pleaded guilty before Judge Iris Awen Jon to a charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A.

The Section carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine or caning upon conviction.

Jisan committed the offence at a house in Bau around 6.15pm on Sept 22.

Based on the facts of the case, police received a call from Jisan’s brother stating that Jisan had injured their mother using a sharp weapon.

The police then went to the house and arrested Jisan.

The investigation found that Jisan had suddenly attacked his mother with a machete and caused her to suffer injuries.

His mother was initially brought to Bau Hospital and later transferred to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.

A medical examination found that the mother had an open fracture on her right thigh bone and a broken little finger on her left hand, which were both caused by the assault.

It is understood that Jisan was inebriated and had argued with his mother prior to the assault.

DPP Ruvinasini Pandian handled the prosecution while Jisan was unrepresented by legal counsel.
