BAU, April 1: Bau District is poised to emerge as a key hub for economic, trade, and tourism activities, driven by its strategic location along the Sarawak–Kalimantan border.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine) and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the accelerating development of border regions presents significant opportunities for Bau to evolve into a new focal point in western Sarawak.
“This progress aligns with the aspirations of Sarawak Maju Makmur 2030 and the State’s post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS), which prioritise inclusive economic growth, improved living standards, and sustainable community development across Sarawak,” he said when officiating the Bau District Chinese Community Association, held in Bau town on Tuesday (March 31).
Harry described the establishment of the association as a vital platform to unite the Chinese community in the district, while strengthening cooperation and fostering greater unity among local residents in pursuit of shared progress.
“Community-based organisations play a crucial role as strategic partners to the government in community cohesion, supporting development efforts, and encouraging active public participation in various initiatives,” he added.
He expressed hope that the association will remain proactive in strengthening community ties, cultivating a spirit of collaboration, and engaging the younger generation to contribute meaningfully to the district’s future development. — DayakDaily
