“This building is undeniably the most advanced of its kind in Samajaya, with an impressive 90 semiconductor probers (wafers) dedicated to testing integrated circuits (ICs) including not only Melexis’ top-selling magnetic sensor ICs, but also innovative products for the exciting world of robotics,” he said during the ceremony in Samajaya High-Tech Park here today.

He noted the trend of technological advancement in chips for medical devices and equipment, and that the healthcare industry requires interactive chips to be placed in equipment.

“As you know, today is the development of artificial intelligence (AI)–interactive AI and generative AI; it all depends on how the chips are designed and how the chips are produced, that will give strength to the devices,” he added.

Abang Johari also expressed his hope that through the collaboration between Melexis and Sarawak Microelectronics Design (SMD) Semiconductor Sdn Bhd, Sarawak will produce designers who will be able to adjust and align themselves to modern advancements in chip technology for future equipment particularly in healthcare.

Meanwhile, Melexis chairwoman Francoise Chombar stated that the new four-storey building is designed by award-winning Belgian architect Sebastian Mortelmans together with award-winning Sarawakian architects, Design Network Architects (DNA).

Covering a ground surface of 4,500 square metres, the building has advanced energy-saving systems, minimising the environmental footprint, which demonstrates Melexis’ longstanding commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).

Its features included a solar installation that can generate 30.000kWh per month, all lights in office and walking areas are automated with movement sensors, and rain water usage of around 175m³.
