MIRI (July 11): Two Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) churches in Ba Kelalan received allocations amounting to RM700,000 from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).

The churches, namely BEM Sahabat Baru and BEM Long Sebulu, received RM500,000 and RM200,000, respectively.

The cheques were presented by Ba Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian at his service centre in Lawas yesterday.

Baru in his speech thanked the Sarawak government for the allocation to help local churches in his constituency.

“This is the right time to support the state leadership under Gabungan Parti Sarawak and the unity government.

“The element of extremism in the peninsula has raised concern and poses a threat to unity, but churches must remain firm in their beliefs and principles,” he said.

He also called on the churches to use their allocation wisely.
