KUCHING, Oct. 5: Starting from an interest in Korean and Japanese food culture, Bingsu Snowlab is now showing up with variations in the Sarawak food market, thus attracting particular attention among Gen Zs.
Snowlab founders Ahmad Afiq Adzly Rosli and Ain Batrishya Khalid, along with business partner Muhammad Masjuhaidy Roymadhan Helmi were inspired to develop the product based on their experiences in Japan and Korea.
According to Ahmad Afiq, they saw the potential for bingsu to be introduced to Sarawak society, as desserts have their own distinct appeal and are in line with food tastes and trends among younger generations.
He said that the idea of expanding the business was also triggered through Kalam Carbuts Belia initiative organised by the United Nations Youth Movement N.6 Tupong Branch.
"This initiative provides space for youth to highlight their entrepreneurial ideas, talents and potential, in line with the aspirations of PCDS 2030.
"This platform is not only a space for product introduction, but also an opportunity for young people to venture into business and generate income through products that have their own appeal", he said.
According to him, Bingsu Snowlab is among the examples of how youthful ideas can be developed into commercial products, especially in an ever-expanding food market.
"Bingsu, which is popular in South Korea and has a wide variety of variations in Asian countries, is also gaining popularity in Sarawak as the concept is tailored to local consumer tastes and trends.
"The development of Bingsu Snowlab demonstrates the tendency of Sarawak's young generation to explore entrepreneurship through creative, fresh products and close to Gen Z lifestyle", he said.
From an idea highlighted through the youth platform, Bingsu Snowlab has now continued to grow with a reception for its products that are gaining more and more place amongst customers in Sarawak.
Furthermore, the developments show that initiatives that give young people space to try, highlight ideas and build businesses can be among the ways of increasing youth participation in Sarawak's economic development.
