Bintulu–Bakun Road among priority routes proposed for upgrading under Budget 2027

BELAGA, Sept 22: The approximately 128km Bintulu–Bakun Road is among the priority routes proposed for upgrading under Budget 2027.

In a Facebook post, Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the road’s condition was among the issues raised by the community at Rumah Baha, Apau Koyan, Sungai Asap, during a meet-and-greet session today.

Nanta, who is also Kapit MP, said that the route serves more than 30 longhouses and villages, as well as providing access to schools, healthcare facilities and economic activities.

“For this reason, the route has been identified as one of the priorities for upgrading works by the Ministry of Works, for consideration under Budget 2027,” he said.

He said that RM28.1 million was approved in 2026 alone for periodic pavement maintenance works covering 11km.

For a long-term solution, his ministry has also proposed six overtaking lanes spanning approximately 12km, with an estimated cost of RM216 million.

“We will continue working towards improvements in stages because better roads not only shorten travel times but also open up wider access and opportunities for communities in the interior of Sarawak,” he said. — DayakDaily
