Bintulu FA players in the thick of action.
BINTULU (Jan 26): Bintulu FA team manager Awang Madihi Awang Yatim attributed the discipline and composure of his players for securing a crucial 2-1 away win over Kuching FA in the first leg of the Sarawak Premier League semi-finals on Saturday.
Despite intense pressure, they kept the hosts at bay for a scoreless first half.
“Kuching FA had the advantage of playing at home and controlled large portions of the game, especially in midfield. However, our defensive unit stayed organised and calm, which was the key factor in our victory,”he told The Borneo Post.
He also commended his boys for their tactical discipline in sticking to the game plan when they trailed by a goal.
The equaliser, which was a header from a long-range free kick, was described as a clear example of the team’s composure under pressure.
While pleased with the result, Awang Madihi remains cautious in the task ahead.
“A one-goal aggregate lead does not mean anything if we lose focus. Every mistake can be costly, so discipline and concentration must be maintained for the full 90 minutes,”he stressed.
The second leg will be played at Stadium Bintulu on Feb 1.
Awang Madihi called on Bintulu supporters to turn out in full force to provide a morale boost to the team aiming to book a place in the final.
“The tie is far from over. I want the players to approach the second leg with 100 per cent commitment and to fight until the final whistle,” he said.
