Bintulu police detain trio for alleged theft of water meters

BINTULU (Feb 12): Police have detained three men suspected of stealing water meters in the Bintulu area since December last year.

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the suspects were arrested around 2.30am on Wednesday during an operation in the town area.

“Subsequent investigations led to the seizure of 17 water meters believed to have been stolen,” he said in a statement.

He added that all three suspects have been remanded for three days to assist investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Nixon urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police.

“Cooperation from the community in keeping an eye on their surroundings is vital in curbing crime,” he added.
