KUCHING (Jan 22): The Bintulu Welfare Office is looking for the biological mother of Iman Fazri, 12, who was abandoned in March 2013.
The office said Iman was born at Bintulu Hospital on March 13, 2013 and abandoned in Kampung Sebiew, Bintulu by his Malaysian mother, identified only as Siti, two days later.
The case is now under the care of child protection officer Dorethea Dayang.
“The biological mother handed over the child to a guardian with the excuse of seeking temporary care.
“However, she never returned for her son and has lost contact since,” the office said in a statement.
The office said Iman’s biological mother is needed to assist with his protection and placement.
“Considering that the child is in need of care and protection under Section 17(1)(e)(i) of the Child Act 2001, a court order has been obtained whereby the child is now placed in the temporary care of a Fit and Suitable Person (OYLS) in accordance with the provisions of Section 19(2)(b) of the Child Act 2001, enforced on Dec 17 last year.
“This serves to ensure the welfare, safety, and emotional stability of the child while efforts to trace the biological mother continue,” said the office.
It explained that the presence of the next-of-kin is essential for the purpose of permanent placement and future planning for the child in accordance with the provisions of the laws in force.
Those with knowledge about Siti or Iman’s biological father are requested to go to the Bintulu Welfare Office at Lot 506, Jalan Sommervill, Bintulu, or call Dorethea on 086-332341 or 086-336494, or email [email protected].
