KUCHING, Feb 2: The body of a six-year-old girl who was feared to have fallen into Sungai Daro, Mukah, was found this afternoon, ending a two-day search and rescue (SAR) operation involving multiple agencies and villagers.

According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the victim was discovered floating in the river near Kampung Lemang Pek at about 4pm today by SAR teams.

“The police were informed for identification, and the victim was brought up at Kampung Panchor jetty before being taken to hospital by police vehicle for confirmation of death,” it said.

The victim was identified as Aqilla Nasuha Shamsol.

Yesterday (Feb 1), DayakDaily reported that a search had been launched after the girl was feared to have fallen into Sungai Daro near Kampung Panchor.

Bomba said the girl was believed to have left her house through the back door without her parents’ knowledge.

Her father later found her footprints leading towards the river at around 1pm on Sunday before alerting the authorities. – DayakDaily
