KUCHING (Oct 4): The 3rd Borneo Cardiac Meeting will explore new frontiers in cardiovascular care, prevention, and treatment, said Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government said the event themed ‘Breakthrough to Excellence – Navigating the New Frontier’ coincides with World Heart Day.

He said it brings together cardiology experts to delve into cardiovascular diseases and continue their medical education.

“Cardiovascular disease is a very common non-communicable disease and can lead to death, a sobering reality that touches countless families, including those in our communities.

“But today, through ‘Breakthrough to Excellence’ we will explore new frontiers in cardiovascular, care, prevention and treatment that have the potential to transform lives,” he said in a speech for the opening ceremony read by Kuching South Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng last night.

Dr Sim emphasised that cardiovascular diseases can be prevented through choices made in daily life.

Wee also expressed his commitment and support for initiatives that promote heart health.

“We will work to make our city more conducive to physical activity, promote public campaigns for healthy eating and improve access to health services.

“Together, we can build a future where cardiovascular disease is no longer the threat it is today,” he said.

He encouraged healthcare professionals and the community to share the message that heart health is attainable for all.

“Let the spirit of World Heart Day inspire us to take bold steps in ensuring that our city becomes a healthier place for all,” he added.
