SIBU (Aug 17): The Borneo Cultural Festival’s (BCF) 2024 International Night here on Friday night was a celebration of cross-border cultural diversity, featuring dazzling performances from Malaysia, China, Thailand and Indonesia.

BCF organising chairman Cr Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley in his speech at the event said this festival served as a platform for building connections that transcend geographic and cultural boundaries.

“It is not only to celebrate the vibrant cultures of Borneo but also the rich tapestry of traditions from the neighbouring countries,” he said, while highlighting the importance of understanding and embracing cross-border cultures.

“Such exchanges allow us to appreciate our differences, find common ground, foster connections and learn from one another, as well as to celebrate such diverse expressions of human creativity,” he added.

“The talent and energy displayed here tonight (Friday night) are a testament to the incredible cultural wealth that each of us brings to the global stage.”

In this regard, Izkandar, who is also Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman, hoped that the festival would be continued in years to come.

Also present were SMC chairman Clarence Ting and deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Desmond Douglas Jerukan.
