KUCHING, Mar 14: A young boy was among three people injured in a road accident involving a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a lorry at Engkelili junction here today.

The boy, who was travelling in a Perodua Alza with two women, was removed from the vehicle by members of the public and was already receiving treatment from medical personnel when rescuers arrived at the scene.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at 1.34pm and dispatched a team from the Sri Aman fire station, which arrived at the location about 18 minutes later.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the Perodua Alza had collided with a lorry, leaving two women still trapped in the front seats of the vehicle.

A team from BBP Sri Aman used specialised rescue equipment and a stretcher to extricate the two victims before providing them with initial medical treatment.

All three victims were later transported to hospital by ambulances from the Ministry of Health (KKM) and the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).

The lorry driver sustained only minor injuries in the incident.

Firefighters also carried out road clearing works to remove debris from the crash site before concluding the operation at 2.47pm after ensuring the situation was safe and under control. — DayakDaily
