Boy injured after allegedly being slapped by man in Asajaya for deflating van tyre, police investigating

KOTA SAMARAHAN (March 14): An 11-year-old boy sustained an injury to his left cheek after allegedly being slapped by a man in an incident at Kampung Asajaya Ulu here on Wednesday night.

Kota Samarahan district police deputy chief DSP Barry William said police received a report on the incident at around 10.27pm.

He said the complainant informed police that the incident occurred at around 9.30pm when his son was slapped by a man known to him, causing injury to the victim’s left cheek.

“The suspect is a local man aged 47 and has also lodged a police report regarding the incident.

“The motive of the incident is believed to stem from the suspect’s claim that the victim had deflated the tyre of his van,” he said in a statement.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

Barry added that the investigation paper will be referred to the Sarawak State Director of Public Prosecution for further instructions after the victim’s medical report is obtained.

At the same time, he advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information regarding the case to avoid interfering with the investigation.

“The police are committed to ensuring public safety and order are always preserved and urge all parties to give full cooperation to the authorities in conducting the investigation,” he said.
