KUCHING: In a bid to spearhead the development of Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) initiatives in Sarawak, British Petroleum (BP) has expressed keen interest in forming a partnership with Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this promising cooperation is a pivotal stride toward cultivating a sustainable and clean energy future, aimed at benefiting forthcoming generations.

“The suitable geological structure for storing carbon dioxide (CO2) has also attracted BP’s interest in forming a network with PETROS.

“So we, the state government, hope that the future collaboration between BP and PETROS will be able to carry out studies on potential carbon storage locations in Sarawak,” he said.

He said this during a meeting with BP at The Park Tower Knightbridge Hotel here yesterday evening (Dec 8).

Prior to that, PETROS Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy Abang Arabi Abang Narudin gave a presentation on the direction of PETROS in the development of CCUS.

British Petroleum is an integrated company operating in all areas of the oil and gas industry including exploration and production, refining, distribution and marketing, petrochemicals, power generation and trading.

The company also has renewable energy interests in biofuels and wind power.

While in a separate meeting, the Premier also led the delegation of the Sarawak Government to hold talks with Hambro Perks, a company that focuses on technology-enabled businesses with its main business operations located in the United Kingdom.
