KUCHING, May 19: The second edition of the Breaking News Run is set to return on July 11, bringing together 1,200 runners, journalists, medical practitioners and fitness enthusiasts at Pullman Kuching for an evening run featuring 7km competitive and 3km fun run categories.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the event has continued to gain traction as Sarawak builds momentum as a destination for marathons and sporting events.
“The event will involve media and medical practitioners, fitness enthusiasts, as well as members of the public. The purpose of this run is to promote healthy living, physical and mental well-being, while strengthening ties between media practitioners and the public,” he said during a press conference at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) media room here today.
The 7km competitive category is scheduled to flag off at 7pm, followed by the 3km fun run at 7.15pm.
Participants can choose from three registration packages: RM30 for a race bib and medal, RM40 for a bib and event T-shirt, or RM50 for the full package comprising a bib, medal and T-shirt.
Abdul Karim said the event T-shirts draw inspiration from world football powerhouses, with participants able to choose between two designs—Argentina’s classic blue-and-white stripes or Brazil’s iconic yellow with green accents.
Cash prizes await the Top 10 finishers in the 7km competitive category, as participants can stand a chance to win lucky draw prizes, including mobile phones, complimentary gym memberships, running shoes, running watches, hotel vouchers and other giveaways.
Abdul Karim also encouraged fellow media practitioners to take part in the event to support tourism promotion efforts and showcase Sarawak through sports and community engagement.
Registration is open until June 10 via Malaysia Runner or its official website.
