The Batang Igan Bridge is set to reshape connectivity and bring new opportunities to the Mukah Division.
MUKAH (Feb 4): The Batang Igan Bridge is set to transform mobility and economic activity along the Mukah-Matu-Daro corridor by slashing river crossing time from up to an hour to just one minute.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the RM285.54 million bridge would be a game changer for communities in the Mukah Division and provide seamless access and open up new socio-economic opportunities in surrounding coastal areas.
“The 1.4km, two-lane single carriageway bridge forms part of the Coastal Road Network and Second Trunk Road project, which aim to strengthen connectivity in Sarawak’s coastal belt.
“The bridge is expected to significantly improve travel efficiency for residents and road users who previously relied on ferry services, often facing long waiting times before crossing the river,” he said during the bridge’s stitching ceremony here.
The bridge is scheduled for completion by March 15.
