SIBU (Jan 31): The Bukit Igu village security and development committee (JKKK) brought festive cheer to low-income families across the neighbourhood at Sungai Bidut here, ahead of the Lunar New Year celebration.
The group, led by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Councillor Kevin Lau, distributed food baskets to 20 low-income families in the area yesterday, as a gesture of care and festive goodwill.
Organised by the JKKK, this outreach programme was headed by Kapitan Tang Chuo Ging.
“We understand the challenges faced by these families in their daily lives, and we hope this small contribution would bring them a positive and meaningful start to the new year, filled with hope, prosperity and blessings,” said Lau in a statement.
He also expressed his appreciation to the community leaders who had proactively stepped forward to support those in need, particularly during the festive season.
“Such initiative does not only help ease the burden of underprivileged families, but it also reflects the strong spirit of unity and mutual support within the community.”
Meanwhile, Tang said JKKK Bukit Igu had always been committed to caring for underprivileged families within the community.
“We maintain close ties with the residents through the collective efforts undertaken by our committee members.
“During special festive occasions, the committee holds various forms of outreach programmes tailored to the community’s needs, ensuring that care and support continue throughout the year,” she said.
Tang also expressed hope that such initiatives would further strengthen community bonds and allow more families in need to feel the warmth and support of society.
