SIBU, July 8: Two projects—the upgrading of Jalan Pulau Dudong and the construction of the Bukit Tunggal Multi-Purpose Transit Centre —have been approved under the mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Speaking at a press conference today, SUPP Dudong chief Wong Ching Yong said the two projects were his general election manifestos for the Lanang parliamentary seat.

In the general election in 2022, Wong lost to the incumbent, Alice Lau of the Democratic Action Party (DAP).

“The upgrading of Jalan Pulau Dudong involves a scheme value of RM40 million, while for the construction of the Bukit Tunggal Multi-Purpose Transit Centre, it is as much as RM5.6 million for the first phase,” he added.

Wong said the tender for the Jalan Pulau Dudong project is expected to be opened in the fourth quarter of this year, followed by construction works, which may start in the first quarter of 2025.

He informed that the 7.6-kilometre-long road repair works would take two years to complete.

Jalan Pulau Dudong will be another main road connecting Jalan Kong Yit Khim to Sibu Jaya and Sibu Airport, which can significantly shorten travel time.

As for the Bukit Tunggal Multi-Purpose Transit Centre, he revealed that tenders will be opened soon.

“I wish to express my appreciation to Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and his deputy, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, for recommending the two projects to the ministry and the responsible party.

“Two more important parts of my election manifesto are to build a heart and cancer centre in Sibu. It will be difficult to fight following my defeat in the election, which left me with no platform to bring these two medical issues to the federal government.

“However, it is my hope and those of the people of Sibu that the two medical centres could be realised for the benefit of heart and cancer patients and their families,” said Wong. — DayakDaily
