Central Zone’s BKTA exponents shine with three golds at 2026 Suksar taekwondo

SIBU (Feb 19): Bumi Kenyalang Taekwondo Association (BKTA) exponents delivered an impressive performance, securing three gold medals and one bronze for the Central Zone contingent at the 2026 Sarawak Games (Suksar) taekwondo competition in Betong recently.

The gold medallists were Joseph Wong Shou Ho, Eric Lu Zeng Ming, and Ting Foo Wei, while Wong Sie King claimed bronze.

Overall, the Central Zone teams collected six gold, six silver, and six bronze medals, finishing second in the team standings.

Southern Zone emerged champions with eight gold, four silver, and four bronze medals, Northern Zone placed third with three gold, seven silver, and eleven bronze, while Western Zone secured one gold and 11 bronze medals.

BKTA advisor and International Grandmaster Dato Sri Lau Keung Chai said the results reflected the long-term dedication of the coaching team and the athletes’ rigorous training.

“This was not merely a victory in competition, but also a true embodiment of teamwork and discipline, something all members should be proud of,” he said during a thanksgiving dinner to mark the team’s victorious celebration recently.

Lau added that continuous effort is essential for the future development of the sport.

“Hopefully, our exponents will continue to refine their techniques, strengthen their physical fitness and at the same time, upgrade their moral characters with good teamwork in order to make taekwondo a vital platform for both physical and personal development.”

He also thanked parents and schools for their full support, which enabled athletes to focus on training and competition.

Looking ahead, Lau said the team aims for further success in future competitions, urging the players to maintain their fighting spirit.
